Lakewood Early Action Program

We supervise a specialized juvenile probation caseload in partnership with Jefferson County Schools, The Jefferson Center for Mental Health (JCMH), The Lakewood Police Department and the Lakewood Municipal Court.

Our mission is to enhance our community partnerships within the mental health and juvenile justice system to prevent future penetration in the justice system by accessing appropriate behavioral health supports for the juveniles and families.  Our program will work to develop client and family competency to decrease criminal and at risk behavior displayed by the juvenile with the intention to increase public safety.  Once competency is achieved we will work to attain sustainability with the family and juvenile to access resources once court case is terminated.

The Lakewood Early Action Program (LEAP) strives to serve the best interest of our youth and families through competency development, follow through with behavioral health interventions and with innovative programming and community partnerships, while fairly administering justice to all whose lives are impacted by the juvenile justice system.

While all participants in LEAP have mental health diagnoses, the Court partnership is not a traditional mental health court in that both resources and court sanctions are necessarily limited.
