Message from the City Manager

Kathy Hodgson

Thank you for visiting the City of Lakewood’s website – a guide to virtually everything you’ll want to know about Lakewood, Colorado.

This is where you’ll find information on City Council and local government, cultural events and theater performances, recreational activities and fitness classes and licenses and permits. You can see videos and City Council meetings, learn how to pay a traffic ticket and discover Lakewood’s golf courses and parks.

Lakewood has a strong sense of community and a long tradition of public service. That’s why we’ve designed a special section called “Community” that provides information about community support programs, volunteerism, neighborhood grants and citizen academies and educational opportunities.

I hope you’ll want to explore all that our city offers. Our 153,000+ residents enjoy mountain views, more than 7,000 acres of parkland, and diverse arts, heritage, and cultural programs. Lakewood has been recognized as an All-America City by the National Civic League and the 2010 Best Place to Work by the Denver Business Journal.

Lakewood is known for its high quality of life, lean and green services and goals and an emphasis on sustainable growth and development. We’re a business-friendly city with an Economic Development Office that helps new businesses and developers build foundations for success.

Our community has one of the finest police departments in the nation and a low crime rate. We also have some of the most dedicated employees. At the City, our people are our No. 1 asset. Our residents and businesses are the reason we strive every day to create a community that is beautiful, enjoyable, service-oriented, responsive and satisfying.

My career with the City has spanned more than 30 years and taken me from the role of lifeguard to the top position. I’m proud of Lakewood and all that we’ve accomplished here. By working together, we’ll make this city even better!
